Recording things that happen and changes that occur in the town. We spend a lot of time studying fairly ancient history, whilst ignoring or not noticing things that happen here and now - the history of the future. That's why I decided to start with the changes occurring in Parkway and Northbrook Street.newbury bloggerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04373602682821222211noreply@blogger.comBlogger15125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616125682239128629.post-21368063327305107792010-02-15T14:19:00.000-08:002010-02-15T14:33:06.924-08:00I'm back again! New trees have been planted, and new seats around the central pillar of the Clockhouse - wooden, replacing the horrid plastic things - although they had the advantage of being washable!!</div><div>The buildings pictured in my earlier posts have well and truly gone - so has the ground they stood on - to be replaced by a huge wet hole! Still, it'll be ok if the pumps keep going.<br />East Street is taking shape, although behind hoardings. I guess everything has been delayed by the bad winter, but as the retail recession continues perhaps it's just as well.</div>newbury bloggerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04373602682821222211noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616125682239128629.post-30698348337320547442009-02-08T00:37:00.000-08:002009-02-08T00:46:36.331-08:00NEWBURY CLOSURES: ROADS, SHOPS, CAR PARKS, MUSEUM etc<strong>Road closures:</strong> have been announced - this time Market Street and Cheap Street, to allow more works associated with the new cinema. <br /><strong>Shop closures</strong>: Of course Woolworths has gone, The Works, Motorworld, La Senza, Adams, Waud (1 of 2), etc etc.<br /><strong>Museum closure:</strong> No plans to re-open in the near future.<br /><strong>Library closure:</strong> Library to close for 2 weeks in March - this is while new systems are installed.<br /><br /><em><strong>Could the last person to leave please turn out the light?</strong></em>newbury bloggerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04373602682821222211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616125682239128629.post-5466217134797320482009-02-08T00:13:00.000-08:002009-02-08T00:36:48.857-08:00PARKWAY CONSTRUCTION SITE NEWBURY JANUARY 2009<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYOPd3fmKdf3KSrEs8Utlqv-Zdd9E48wr0L9Qk14oKJapi8Yi-CU7ufsPdx5CH6etldBeQqArAnKXEKm_sHDtzc8KdjwyWB0K3EKOe1yLCCQxRKDnk26NUTDBUuCl1LwuLlXWQm5YRpNs/s1600-h/09.01.24.6.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300339383202055234" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYOPd3fmKdf3KSrEs8Utlqv-Zdd9E48wr0L9Qk14oKJapi8Yi-CU7ufsPdx5CH6etldBeQqArAnKXEKm_sHDtzc8KdjwyWB0K3EKOe1yLCCQxRKDnk26NUTDBUuCl1LwuLlXWQm5YRpNs/s200/09.01.24.6.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-_vGctwzoaPsPpPda1Fv35l4YykBbXU29SgeGbklozLWTLRsj2K1MmcRyCfUXVnlQzCiujeLZ_rgzawA1tRxoK7MNn3Px7Qgl84oe19qqrlriab0H9GO7EF35NGGmjOPxYb12PoV-IGE/s1600-h/09.01.24.8.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300339382936091698" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-_vGctwzoaPsPpPda1Fv35l4YykBbXU29SgeGbklozLWTLRsj2K1MmcRyCfUXVnlQzCiujeLZ_rgzawA1tRxoK7MNn3Px7Qgl84oe19qqrlriab0H9GO7EF35NGGmjOPxYb12PoV-IGE/s200/09.01.24.8.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiymAB4sAx_I-A8wxsyLTDNx_6PkwimTwOd8bhuL9YzKNzJrc1VcAFOZza97aoBL08qNrPzsY8rEsLLDzthCdM7TC6Oi157lPaGyHvNCUuUT-0U7r_TYwLihh7fIzIih5mUy-KdxYgLb6A/s1600-h/09.01.24.1.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300338855382162930" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 144px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiymAB4sAx_I-A8wxsyLTDNx_6PkwimTwOd8bhuL9YzKNzJrc1VcAFOZza97aoBL08qNrPzsY8rEsLLDzthCdM7TC6Oi157lPaGyHvNCUuUT-0U7r_TYwLihh7fIzIih5mUy-KdxYgLb6A/s200/09.01.24.1.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFswxDups_hBozaH1FtXmlP5fu4ExJ4g0Djrs1irdc2GwmmULGLnaw2Lfn2tDlIMe7lUF80a-r5vro3GJrMse2SZhEE3SRRVsvH6Tv5yNPK0DTjkGnklKPmA-vkQCmK7QHfrYBQ08cToA/s1600-h/09.01.024.3.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300338501100524866" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFswxDups_hBozaH1FtXmlP5fu4ExJ4g0Djrs1irdc2GwmmULGLnaw2Lfn2tDlIMe7lUF80a-r5vro3GJrMse2SZhEE3SRRVsvH6Tv5yNPK0DTjkGnklKPmA-vkQCmK7QHfrYBQ08cToA/s200/09.01.024.3.JPG" border="0" /></a> Images from the top. </div><div>1) wheel wash to try and control the contamination of Parkway. </div><div>2) The collapsed auger/crane. A lot of plant on site and activity in many areas. One of the interesting things this week was watching the recovery of topsoil. It was being 'sifted' out of a digger bucket and gathered in heaps around the site - see image, taken through the mesh fences. Good to be able to see this activity - if the site was surrounded by hoardings we shouldn't know what was happening on the site - as is the case with the cinema site!</div></div>newbury bloggerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04373602682821222211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616125682239128629.post-40579966406176905542008-11-03T22:19:00.000-08:002008-11-03T22:23:03.572-08:00BROADWAY BLOCKEDOn Monday 3rd. November West Street was closed. Park Street was still closed to through traffic - it was open for access and 2 way traffic as far as the barriers near the eastern end, so, as predicted, The Broadway became a dead end between 10am and 6pm. Might be an idea to put up a sign near the clock house to prevent traffic entering The Broadway and then having to turn round and come back again.newbury bloggerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04373602682821222211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616125682239128629.post-3698631522854710332008-11-01T13:25:00.000-07:002008-11-01T13:33:03.612-07:00MORE GONE TODAY<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXa0sLbbWLnbnzTEb-FtV3PAs3ydcEVenhDriSKV49AGCQapPxITiL35siRB5GnyEu4ZswbbRRt3Kde8-yLNtkSwEJWRCw8Qf2GHMcUBOsYYQ6iGa4sEOUDKAIw-KuNv8dPCrmjgjDmlc/s1600-h/30.10.08.2.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263789806763080130" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 228px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXa0sLbbWLnbnzTEb-FtV3PAs3ydcEVenhDriSKV49AGCQapPxITiL35siRB5GnyEu4ZswbbRRt3Kde8-yLNtkSwEJWRCw8Qf2GHMcUBOsYYQ6iGa4sEOUDKAIw-KuNv8dPCrmjgjDmlc/s320/30.10.08.2.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF5Ltx91c8-MK3RWdSjJfXyGUwRksxknHEHjsafZrWMvhdZwSjA5qxms6I7EUwm8FD3YMqPlzMzyJfSytswrk684VO26vuc_k_9qL_NXsQB4xYxBc4tHyEFonbXgN6G2N857bSgwIiytE/s1600-h/29.09.08.a.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263789796182259698" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 209px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF5Ltx91c8-MK3RWdSjJfXyGUwRksxknHEHjsafZrWMvhdZwSjA5qxms6I7EUwm8FD3YMqPlzMzyJfSytswrk684VO26vuc_k_9qL_NXsQB4xYxBc4tHyEFonbXgN6G2N857bSgwIiytE/s320/29.09.08.a.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div>Car wash next to M & S all gone now. Had a chat with the Europarks attendant who was logging car numbers. I was told that the 'overstays' had increased enormously since the beginning of the month. Allowed 3 hours so obviously those drivers aren't shopping in the store.<br />Some piling has been done at the back of Woolworths - minor demolition along the Parkway side of the development. Lots of staff on site and about the area - 'All makes work for the working man'. Must be good for the coffee shops and takeaways if no other retailer - the hard hat and paper coffee cup seem to go hand in hand.<br />Traffic lights out of action on Robin Hood roundabout and traffic was flowing fairly freely. North/South takes priority, really because of the volume so can be a bit difficult getting out of the London Road, however, it seemed to be an improvement thus far. Of course, it's only temporary while phasing and things are re-jigged - let's hope it's an improvement. A pile driver was delivered on Monday and Costain appear to have established their office with an entrance in Northbrook Street. Took a few photos but probably not worth posting.<br /><strong>Parking</strong><br />1 hour FREE parking spaces have been created in Northbrook Street - or should I say 'had been' - yellow lines were overlaid with black and so about 7 spaces were available, nr the Methodist Church - well they lasted about a week - the exact area is now under a mini construction site - trenches, barriers etc - couldn't make it up could you?!newbury bloggerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04373602682821222211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616125682239128629.post-75810462554803934132008-09-29T13:09:00.000-07:002008-09-29T23:39:49.090-07:00NEWBURY BERKSHIRE BLOG<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKR2B2ohF3kIsz9YkyRUQMQ3D6xqbnGuoOdj5Rzc9uCBALerSJQ-eojQj3pxY1qVKtb7XpUr9T1pQn7JWmkTiFxBaUWFkGKWB1wbHfZO4aoC68gydi7122I6SHLIU4E5JoUQqNCp6jNeU/s1600-h/parkway1.+29.9.08.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251551837022691346" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKR2B2ohF3kIsz9YkyRUQMQ3D6xqbnGuoOdj5Rzc9uCBALerSJQ-eojQj3pxY1qVKtb7XpUr9T1pQn7JWmkTiFxBaUWFkGKWB1wbHfZO4aoC68gydi7122I6SHLIU4E5JoUQqNCp6jNeU/s320/parkway1.+29.9.08.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPa4Qf9uS8CkGVeSbfpbeW0-HTfaHuxeuczMmwb-35Eh3koz8eOwLyuiQPbLKWODEKdTOKmtLYGYTj52ovBWn2NzH5QdAxDnr3lE6Y64PrsH2Apjkue70fjUILIE-k5Q3GKX8joKhGm-A/s1600-h/parkway+from+Camps2.+29.9.08.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251551837055693490" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPa4Qf9uS8CkGVeSbfpbeW0-HTfaHuxeuczMmwb-35Eh3koz8eOwLyuiQPbLKWODEKdTOKmtLYGYTj52ovBWn2NzH5QdAxDnr3lE6Y64PrsH2Apjkue70fjUILIE-k5Q3GKX8joKhGm-A/s320/parkway+from+Camps2.+29.9.08.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidisMTcEMLNyqG2SpSb26iLuky-FCRZE2HCdC4efV17DvumUm5KdjzMuEnPqoTPVFR3cAXFuNxK5jCCBhpFMTKJw1BUITscvjxeoeXHpCIqBff5m3jScDVE64xnnNCyFEr9F5YzRoU0e0/s1600-h/parkway12.+29.9.08.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251551844861959810" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidisMTcEMLNyqG2SpSb26iLuky-FCRZE2HCdC4efV17DvumUm5KdjzMuEnPqoTPVFR3cAXFuNxK5jCCBhpFMTKJw1BUITscvjxeoeXHpCIqBff5m3jScDVE64xnnNCyFEr9F5YzRoU0e0/s320/parkway12.+29.9.08.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div align="justify"><span style="color:#000099;">29.09.2008</span></div><br /><br /><div align="justify"><span style="color:#000099;">Today the Parkway re-development began. No parking allowed anywhere in Parkway which will simply be a through route, for vehicular traffic, to Parkway bridge and Camp Hopson's Department store car park. Pedestrians will be able to access Parkway and use the back entrances to M & S, Tesco and, I think, Woolworths. The whole area is divided up and sectioned off by tall metal fences - looks like a ghost town. Hopefully I'll be able to post on here the photos I took today.</span></div><br /><br /><div align="justify"><span style="color:#000099;">This is my first effort at 'blogging' so let's see if I can make it work!</span></div>newbury bloggerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04373602682821222211noreply@blogger.com2
